Donation given to members of Pontiac Search and Rescue

Bryson: On he evening of Monday March 13 it poured, it thundered and lightning flashes blazed through the rain and clouds. Despite all this a hard-core group of volunteers with the local search & rescue showed up at the CLSC in Bryson to receive a cheque from Promutuel Valley Mutual for $1000.

Also present that evening was a representative from the National Secretariat for Search & Rescue who wished to invite the fledgling group to attend the annual national convention to be held October 4 – 7 at Lac Lemay in Hull. With over 15 countries represented the conference will offer a huge variety of information segments as well as kiosks and displays. Some 60 different seminars are to be presented. Some of the training will take the form of competitions outdoors where competitors will search for clues in a forested area to find a ‘lost’ soul. There will also be a SAR’s training session the weekend before the conference. The usual attendance at this event is in the neighborhood of 4 – 500 SAR volunteers.

Mike Guitard, the head of the group was very appreciative of the recognition demonstrated by Valley Mutual’s donation. His hope is that as Search & Rescue gains in profile more and more members of the community will volunteer their time, and financial support will grow commensurately.

Benefit Supper - April 19th, 2008

SAR Pontiac wants to thank everyone who attended the benefit supper. We have raised, at the occasion, slightly over $1700 which will go towards equipment and training. We would also like to express our appreciation to Mr Louis Diorio, Mrs Adèle Gagnon-Diorio and the staff of Camp Des Voyageurs Tim Horton, Quyon for their support and collaboration to this event.
